We Built the Practice

We Wish We'd Had.

Just Breathe was born from personal experience — the experience of being sick, being dismissed, and ultimately having to find another way. What we built here is the care we couldn't find anywhere else.

More Than a Wellness Studio

Just Breathe Alternative Medical Solutions is a holistic wellness practice rooted in energy and detox therapies — but more than that, it's a space built on a promise. A promise that you will be listened to. That your time will be respected. That your concerns will be taken seriously. And that no one here will ever make you feel like you're imagining what your body is telling you.

We serve the entire family — children, adults, seniors, and even pets — with FDA-approved treatments designed to help the body remove toxins, restore balance, and heal from the inside out. We don't diagnose. We don't prescribe. We listen, we assess, and we guide you toward the care your body is asking for

Our Promise to Every Client

At Just Breathe, our mission is to create a wellness space where every client feels valued, heard, and supported. We promise to never rush your care — providing one-on-one attention and genuine listening so we can truly understand your needs. Our team is committed to showing compassion and care while guiding you toward better health and balance. We take the time to explain all treatment options, ensuring you feel informed and confident in your wellness journey. Together, we will work toward helping you achieve a healthier, happier you — mind, body, and spirit.

Before Just Breathe was a business, it was a lifeline.

Laura's Story

Laura Melecosky-Zachman spent over 20 years as a Respiratory Therapist — working in hospitals, caring for patients, pouring herself into a profession she loved. She understood the human body.

She understood medicine.

And when her own health began to collapse around her, she assumed the system she had given her career to would take care of her.

It didn't.

Chapter 1 — The Beginning of a Long Fight

It started with a tick bite. In 5th grade, and again in 2013, Laura was bitten — each time developing a bullseye rash, the hallmark sign of Lyme Disease. Each time, she was dismissed. Told she'd be fine. Sent home.

In 2016, after a family vacation, everything changed. An upper respiratory infection and vertigo rapidly escalated into something far more frightening. Laura became bedbound. She suffered what she now understands was a Lyme-related stroke — affecting her entire right side, her speech, her memory, and her cognition. She experienced up to 34 non-epileptic seizures in a single day. She gained weight without eating. She couldn't stay awake, then couldn't sleep at all. Her blood sugar was erratic. The pain was relentless.

And through every test, every scan, every appointment — the results came back normal.

Chapter 2 — Twenty-Two Doctors and No Answers

What followed was years of fighting — for answers, for acknowledgment, for someone in the medical system to simply believe her.

Over the course of her illness, Laura saw 22 traditional medicine doctors. She heard, again and again, that her bloodwork was fine. That her imaging was clear. That there was nothing wrong. One doctor — a former CDC infectious disease specialist — told her there were no ticks in Illinois. Another told her she was crazy. She walked out of that appointment on a walker, in tears.

As a Respiratory Therapist, Laura knew what good care looked like. What she was receiving wasn't it.

Chapter 3 — Finding a Different Way

Slowly, through relentless research and the unwavering support of her husband Chad, Laura began to find her way toward healing — not through the system that had failed her, but around it.

She discovered PEMF — Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy — and began using it to help her get upright and walking again after her stroke. She added detoxing methods to help her body clear what had accumulated and return to its natural, healthy state. She worked with a functional medicine chiropractor in Chicago who, for the first time, ran the right tests — and found that her C4A levels, which measure autoimmune disease and inflammation, were three times the upper limit. He told her she should have been dead with numbers like those.

In November 2021, after years of searching, Laura sat across from doctor number 23 — Dr. Lisa Miller of Excell For Life Functional Medicine in Indianapolis. Dr. Miller listened. She didn't judge. She took her time. She ran the right tests. And she gave Laura what 22 other doctors had refused to give her: a diagnosis. Chronic Lyme Disease. A treatment protocol. A path forward.

Laura left that appointment in tears — this time, of relief.

Chapter 4 — From Patient to Practitioner

Healing gave Laura a new kind of clarity about what she was supposed to do next.

She had tried to bring what she'd learned back into traditional medicine. She had tried to treat patients with essential oils, with affirmations, with the kind of whole-person attention she knew made a difference. She was told she couldn't. Insurance wouldn't cover it. Institutions wouldn't allow it. The system she'd worked inside for two decades wasn't built for the kind of care she wanted to give.

So she built something new.

Just Breathe Alternative Medical Solutions LLC was founded not in spite of Laura's struggle, but because of it. Every service offered here — every PEMF session, every foot bath, every consultation — reflects what she learned from being on the other side of the table. She knows what it feels like to be dismissed. She knows what it costs to spend years without answers. And she built this practice so that her clients never have to go through that alone.

Chapter 5 — Where We Are Now

Laura still lives with Chronic Lyme Disease. She uses the same treatments she offers her clients every day to manage flare-ups and maintain her health. She is still on the protocol. Some days are harder than others. But she shows up — because this work is not a job to her. It is a calling.

The name Just Breathe is no accident. For Laura, it carries a dual meaning. It reflects her 20+ years as a Respiratory Therapist — a career built on the understanding that breath is life. And it reflects something deeper: the moment of relief when you finally exhale the fear, the frustration, and the isolation of being unwell and unheard — and inhale the possibility that things can get better.

Just Breathe. It's not just the name of this practice. It's the promise behind it.

Why Just Breathe?

The name means more than it might first appear.

For Laura, breathe is the word at the center of her professional life — 20 years spent in hospitals, at bedsides, in moments where breath was the difference between crisis and calm. It is the most fundamental act of being alive, and she has never taken it for granted.

But just breathe also means something else. It means: pause. It means: you are safe here. It means: exhale what you've been carrying — the fear, the frustration, the years of feeling like no one believed you — and take in the possibility that things can be different.

That is what Just Breathe is here to offer. Not a cure, not a miracle — but a genuine, unhurried, one-on-one partnership in getting you to a healthier, happier version of yourself.

One breath at a time.
